circuitus

Making her way home from a house party gone wrong, Tia recalls the events that led to her meeting ***, and the awkward tension that devolves into violence.

Circuitus is a 10 minute short drama.

The short follows protagonist Tia as she makes her way home from a friend’ s birthday party. However, a series of flashbacks explores her less than ideal experience as she meets and interacts with *** , a mutual friend that turns out to not only be incredibly obnoxious, but outright dangerous.

The short explores themes of misogyny, male entitlement and an overall sense of frustration felt by women and other femme presenting people of how men can feel that they’re owed female attention because of their gendered status, and when this isn’t reciprocated how quickly this can turn violent.

Circuitus’ Production

Being my first independent film and my director debut, this was the first time I’d ever been at the helm of a short film. And what an experience it was!

There’s a not-so-quiet chaos that inhabits a film set, no matter how much has been planned there’s always something that’s thrown into the gears and it was interesting to see how quickly we could all take it in, reassess and pivot from there. Weather issues, having to wait till 8:30pm to film and then having to do it all before midnight, and a light sensor were all the fun things that made it a learning experience for sure.

But I had a blast and now I have notes to bring to my next production experience, and I’ll try to avoid night shoots for a while, I think.

Post-Production and Beyond

After many gruelling months of editing and ‘FINAL CUT I HOPE’s, having a final cut of my first short film is in a word, surreal.

I’ve been watching the same timeline and grading the same shots for a while now, but seeing it all together, with edited audio, cuts at the right places and grading that doesn’t look awful, it’s crazy to see and very wonderful to have.

I’m truly so proud of everyone involved, and as Anna and myself start to embark on the film festival circuit, I’m excited where Circuitus flourishes from here.

While obviously I’m unable to release the film currently, See some official stills below
