Now after flirting with one too many glasses of whiskey, she relives old, painful memories, brutally exposing how she got here and lost far more than she gained…
Linger is a fifteen minute drama.
The short follows Marie Williams, thirty-six and an actress clinging to the spotlight no matter how much it burns her. Prompted by a letter from an old flame, and with the help of too much whiskey and barbital, she finds herself thrown back in time, re-witnessing the rise of her career but the fall of her inter-personal relationships, what’s she’s gained but how much she’s lost.
The film explores the passage of time, the balancing act between staying true to oneself vs concealment for success, and the protection that wealth, both social and fiscal, provides to someone from the cruelties of the time. Or, for others, allows them to entirely ignore it. Marie is swept up by the glitz and glamour, but barely treads water in the blatant cruelty in the industry, desperate for a chance despite its consequences.
